Adam Ingram

Adam Ingram (1852 - 1934)

Adam as a youngster lived on 'Annies Farm Leigh's Lane' - but according to his father's probate it was written as 'Hennies Farm' ....  In 1901 he was at Pye Nest Farm in Park Lane past the Morris Dancers' Ground and during his life he worked at several farms in the area.

His sister, Elizabeth Eve Ingram, was always known as  Eve,

and they took part in the annual Foresters' procession on a 'float' depicting the 'Garden of Eden' (which you can just see at the back of the parade) as Adam and Eve!

It is believed that he took part in the dance in the late 1860s and also in 1880. He was involved in the organisation of the 1901 performance.

He was one of Maud Karpeles' main informants when she was researching the dance in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

He is buried in Abram churchyard and every spring his grave is surrounded by bluebells.

In 2001, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the last "traditional" performance, a wreath was laid on the grave.
